How to fashionably hide your trouble spots

While we’re ready to hit the treadmill again and trade the cookies for carrot sticks, there are ways to fashionably hide those trouble spots in the meantime.

It’s an expression we gals all know and love (ok, not really): muffin top.

And with a month of holiday indulgence behind us, some of our muffin tops may have expanded to Bundt cake size.

While we’re ready to hit the treadmill again and trade the cookies for carrot sticks, there are ways to fashionably hide those trouble spots in the meantime. We asked stylist Ashleigh Scott to share some of her top tricks for camouflaging the evidence of our recent not-so-healthy eating habits:

When shopping for denim, look for a higher waistband. Higher waistbands provide more coverage and keep any belly spillover to a minimum.

Look for flowy blouses, or tops with smocked waistlines. Flowy blouses float over your curves in a flattering way, while smocked waistlines offer a defined waist with a blousing effect that works for most shapes.

If you’re long-limbed, look for pants and jeans that fall to the appropriate length. Same thing with sweaters – look for tops that come to the wrist/top of the hand.

Small prints on tops are great – they help distract from trouble areas and provide an extra bit of camouflage.

Pair flowy tops with tank tops underneath – and look for one with a bit of stretch. A stretchy tank helps pull in belly fat and provides a smoother silhouette.

Not only does a light-coloured top with a dark collar look fashionable, it also draws the eye up, helping shift the focus from your mid-section.
