Foolproof techniques for a flawless makeup look

Kirk Brierley gives us the basics we should always apply for a moisturized and sun-protected face.

There are so many cosmetics on the market — but how many do we really need for a polished look that won’t make us feel like we have twenty layers of product on our faces?  Kirk Brierley gives us the basics we should always apply for a moisturized and sun-protected face.

1. Eye cream: This will always be your first step as you want to avoid mixing anything in the eye zone until it is set.  You put it on first, and by the time the cream sets, it’s ready for your eye makeup.

2. Facial moisturizer: Kirk says it’s important to choose a moisturizer that’s appropriate for your skin, and avoid mixing it with your eye cream.  Simply apply it to the perimeter of your eye cream and allow to set.

3. Sunscreen: This is the last product before the makeup is applied.  The reason for this is because it is the product that’s closest to the sun.  It is formulated to be lighter in texture, but protects you from UVA and UVB rays.

4. Makeup primer: This layer prepares your face for the makeup, removes the shine, oiliness, and evens out overall complexion for application.

5. Concealer: Apply this to hide blemishes and dark circles.

6. Foundation: This will help even out complexion and skin tone.

7. Finishing powder: Lastly, finish it off with a pressed powder to seal and set everything in.  Kirk says it’s important to choose a finishing powder that’s appropriate to your skin type.
