Industrial fusion: The hottest new décor trend you need to try

Step aside concrete-esque décor and welcome in those bright feminine touches to really spice up your space.

We always love when a stylist mixes and matches contrasting styles, and of course our expert Kimberley Seldon executes it perfectly! The industrial look has been making major waves in homes, giving blah spaces a modern, rustic edge. However, we want to avoid making our homes look too industrial. The idea of this design is to capture that rough, masculine vibe and mix it with a warm feel—it’s a challenging balance, to be sure. Well folks, it is possible to achieve thanks to Kimberley’s newly-coined design term, “Industrial Fusion.” Step aside, concrete-esque décor and welcome in those bright feminine touches to really spice up your space.

When designing your Industrial Fusion space, it is important to keep these 4 rules in mind:

1. Don’t go overboard on the industrial pieces. If you choose square, masculine shelves, make sure to balance out the look with soft, rounded décor or a simple, chic curved chandelier.

2. Utilize the 80/20 rule. In this case, 80% of your décor should be neutral pieces and 20% should be the décor that captures that industrial vibe.

3. Offset the heavy grays.  If you plan to incorporate some metals (either in shelves, chairs, tables, etc), Kimberley recommends using yellow-toned metals. This rustic colour will bring some much needed warmth to your space, especially in those bitter winter months.

4. Integrate some colour. Pump up the colour in your space with warm colours to play up your theme in the summer season. Decorative pillows and table centerpieces can easily be switched out for cooler colours in the winter.
