Olympic activities for the whole family

It’s time to take inspiration from the Olympics in London and do some Olympic activities of your own.

It’s time to take inspiration from the Olympics in London and do some Olympic activities of your own.

Whether you need an Olympic mind game for a road trip or an Olympic movement game for a Saturday afternoon … you are sure to find some fun with these family friendly activities.

Mind Olympics For The Whole Family

  • What’s that sport? Name all the winter or summer Olympic sports you can (great conversation game at restaurants while you await your meal!)
  • What’s that country? Name all the countries participating in the London 2012 Olympic games (hint: there are 204 countries)
  • Why five rings? Discuss why there are five rings in the Olympic symbol (hint: it has to do with the five major regions of the world)

Movement Olympics For The Whole Family

  • Swimming. Whether splashing in a kiddie pool or doing laps in an Olympic sized pool – swimming is a sport for all ages and abilities.
  • Gymnastics: Monkey bars anyone? Visit a local playground and jump, hop, balance and skip.
  • Run: Try the 50 step dash down the street – on your mark, get set, dash 50 steps!

Make your own backyard mini-Olympics by setting out a fun obstacle course. Hula hoops, balls, jump rope and more can be great tools to get your mini-Olympics going. Make up teams or set it as an individual best sport. The purpose is to have fun, get active and celebrate the Olympic spirit.

Switch-Up

Take some grown-up time to celebrate the Olympics in a personal way. Go for a power walk with a friend (ok, to a coffee shop if you like). Play a game of tennis. Join a basketball team.

The Olympics inspire us to celebrate personal best and sport. Isn’t it time we make sport personal?
