Wood surfaces

  • Rub coconut oil to moisturize the wood
  • Add black tea to water before mopping to richen the colour
  • Use a temperature-controlled steamer with water

Silverware

  • Apply a layer of ketchup to the surface and allow to sit for 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
  • Place a piece of tin foil on the bottom of a plastic container (shiny side up), add 1 cup of washing soda (Arm & Hammer makes it), and fill with hot water.  Stir the mixture and then place the silverware in contact with the tin foil and allow to soak for 15 minutes.
  • Rinse in clean warm water, and buff.

Toilets

  • Pour cola in the bowl and allow to sit for an hour.
  • Scrub with a toilet brush and then flush to descale ring build-up.
  • Sprinkle baking soda around the inside of the bowl, and then use a wet scrub brush to remove any grime.

Broken glass

  • After vacuuming or sweeping up the larger broken glass pieces, press down on the surface with a fresh piece of white bread to pick up any small fragments.
  • White bread also works well to lightly dust delicate oil paintings.

Grease

  • Add a few drops of lemon juice to your kitchen soap dispenser to help cut grease, lemon is also a great deodorizer to clean the inside of fridges and microwaves.
  • Mix 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water in a spray bottle and use to clean stainless steel appliances.  The acidic vinegar will help to cut through the grease of fingerprint marks, and always use a microfiber cloth to avoid streaks.

The bottom of a dirty vase

  • Add a drop of dish soap, a small amount of water and a handful of rice to the bottom of a small neck vase and shake to remove grime from the bottom
