Maple cheddar & Granny Smith grilled cheese on the BBQ

Ingredients:

  • Heavy-duty foil (important)
  • Butter or margarine
  • 2 slices bread of your choice (2 slices per sandwich)
  • 1 tbsp real maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup grated sharp cheddar (per sandwich)
  • 1/4 Granny Smith apple, thinly sliced
  • 1 slice cooked bacon (purchased that way)

Method:

Pull out enough foil to fit 2 bread slices wide.

Butter bread and place butter-side down on foil.

Drizzle maple syrup on both unbuttered sides.

Top one side with cheddar, scattering evenly.

Top with thinly sliced apple pieces.

Break bacon in half and place one piece on each side.

Place second slice of bread, butter-side up on top.

Close foil loosely (with the opening on the side) so the top and bottom have a flat surface when flipped (bread browns nicely on top and bottom when flat). Close enough to steam so that cheese melts…yet make sure steam can escape so bread is crisp.
