DIY: Dyed ombre scarf

Try this easy and all-natural DIY ombre scarf, using purple cabbage to make a natural dye!

Here are Leigh-Ann Allaire Perrault’s instructions for an easy and all-natural DIY ombre scarf, using purple cabbage to make a natural dye.

Dyed ombre scarf

Materials:

Red cabbage
Boiling water
Clear container
Silk scarf

Method:

1. Cut half of a red cabbage into small pieces and add to a large pot of boiling water.

2. Cover with a lid and boil for approximately 45 minutes.

3. Cool and drain liquid into a separate bowl.

4. Pour liquid into a clean container and dip light coloured fabrics into the dye to create a beautiful lilac hue. The longer you leave the fabric in the dye, the more saturated the colour will be.

6. Once you are happy with the colour, rinse the garment in cool water and then lay flat to dry for several days to help set the dye.

7. Finally, press the garment on the appropriate heat setting for the type of fabric.

Note: Natural dyes gradually fade over time and should be hand washed.
