3 DIY summer crafts

Entertain the kids all summer long with these three easy and inexpensive DIY crafts!

You don’t have to spend a lot of money on crafts to keep your kids entertained – DIY expert Denise Wild shows us three easy crafts you can do at your home that will eliminate boredom all summer long!

Kinetic sand

Materials

  • 50 lb. bag of sand
  • 3 tbsp Great Value dish soap
  • 6 cups of water mixed with Great Value cornstarch (in a 50/50 proportion)
  • Splash of vinegar (optional)
  • Container for mixing
  • Spoon for mixing

Instructions

  1. Mix the water and corn starch with the dish soap.
  2. Add sand and mix.
  3. Add more water or sand until the desired consistency has been reached.

Sidewalk chalk paint

Materials

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup Great Value corn starch
  • Great Value food colouring
  • Container for mixing
  • Spoon for mixing

Instructions

  1. Mix the water and corn starch.
  2. Add drops of food colouring until the desired colour has been achieved.
  3. Stir the paint before using.

Bubbles

Materials

  • 1 cup distilled water
  • 1 tbsp Great Value dish soap
  • 1 tsp of glycerin
  • Container for mixing
  • Spoon for mixing
  • Bubble wands (try Great Value straws or Styrofoam cups for an inexpensive alternative)

Instructions

  1. Mix the water, dish soap, and glycerin
  2. Cover and let the jars set for 24 hours before using
  3. Try adding 2 table spoons of water-based glow-in-the-dark paint to the soap, then place the containers in the sun for several hours before using.
