4 essential tips that will get you back into the gym

We all know that when the New Year hits, one of our resolutions usually has to do with getting more exercise.  But unfortunately, all too often, the momentum stops at the thought and we do not set one foot in the gym, or workout class.

One of the main reasons for this, is that many people feel intimidated, or anxious about going to the gym, or trying a new class. Here are four essential tips that will help you walk into the gym, channelling your Inner Beyoncé as you strut though your workout.

  • Four Basic Moves to Master

    Squat, Lift, Push and Pull.  These are the main moves you will use in any workout routine, as well as all of the major lifts.  Once you groove these moves you are well on your way to looking like a pro.
  • Pacing

    Fast and uncontrolled movements always give away a beginner lifter…..SLOW DOWN.  You are much less likely to hurt yourself if you are moving in at a controlled Pace.
  • Watch your Angles

    Most exercises are safe to do with your joints flexed at 90 degrees.  Once you go below this you may put yourself at risk for injury and you may look like you do not know the proper technique.
  • Great Gym Etiquette

    A few basic behaviours will determine if you are a great new addition to the club, or an annoying energy sucker, that must be avoided.
