It’s a trend that’s taking the world by storm: the art of crochet. From sweaters, to hats, to scarves and everything in between, the opportunities to get your creative juices flowing while creating items you can actually wear and enjoy in every day life are endless.

No, it’s not the same as knitting – and yes, it’s easier to learn than you think! With winter in full swing and cozy snow days inevitable, we’ve called in DIY Expert Monique Taylor-Yee Shui to give you a step-by-step tutorial on how to create your very own warm crocheted blanket.

How to Crochet:

  1. Get some chunky knit wool from your local craft store
  2. Create your first knot with a loop
  3. Take your wool and loop it through the hole
  4. Continue looping through, this is your base for you to start knitting
  5. Once you reach the length you would like for your blanket, take your loop and the second loop and start looping through again, loop through each hole you identify.
  6. Once you have reached the end go back through the loops again.
  7. Keep going until you get the length you want.

Tips:

  • It may be easier for you to lay the blanket on the floor.
  • The bigger the loops the looser the blanket will be, the tighter the loops the tighter it will be.
