Never Have I Ever – Netflix 

Whether you’re a teen yourself, a parent of teenagers or simply love teen TV, you’ll really enjoy this show. It’s heartwarming, funny and down to earth. The coming of age series “Never Have I Ever” stars Mississauga native Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and was created by Mindy Kaling, famously known for her role in The Office (2005-2013). The show is loosely based on Mindy’s life growing up as a South-Asain teen in America. Authentically portraying the realities of the immigrant experience it’ll make you empathize, laugh, and cry. The diverse cast breaks through stereotypical roles and makes for a genuine portrayal of both the joys and aches of adolescence. “Never Have I Ever” is currently streaming on Netflix.

The Photograph – Universal Pictures 

“The Photograph” is a tenderhearted love story for the ages starring Issa Rae and Lakeith Stanfield, and is Directed by Canadian Stella Meghie. The film is a beautiful, slow burning drama and ideal to set the mood for date night. The film portrays diverse characters in dynamic circumstances, reaching stages of self actualizing and introspecting to bring out the best in each other. Released on Valentine’s Day earlier this year, you can access The Photograph via your favourite movie rental service.

The Last Dance – Netflix 

It’s bird… It’s plane… No, it’s Michael Jordan!

If you grew up in the 90s and remember the glory days of the Chicago Bulls, you’ll love this documentary. You don’t even have to like sports to become enthralled in the storyline. Although you might be familiar with team captain Michael Jordan, wingman Scottie Pippen, and the eccentric Dennis Rodman you may be wondering what they were like off of the court. “The Last Dance” delves into the mindset of what it was like to lead one the world’s greatest sports teams to victory. The series gets into the fundamentals on the court, the rumours in the press, and the mindset of arguably the greatest basketball player of all time.
