3 Outdoor DIY Games To Make With Your Kids

These games are as easy to make, as they are fun to play!

Get the kids off of their screens and playing outside this summer with these fun DIY activities from BroLaw David Kenney:

Game #1: Painted rocks for DIY tic tac toe outside

This game was inspired by David’s experience walking around the woods and coming across rocks other people painted and left there. From there, David decided to create a tic tac toe game with the kids.

What you need:

  1. Stones, paint a base colour, get kids to paint X and O
  2. For the board, use a piece of wood, paint lines/use tape or create lines on the ground with twigs or landscape spray paint on the grass.

Game #2: Bean bag throw

Using a large juice can, remove the label, wash it and base coat with metal/high adhesion primer and then let the kids have fun and design the cans however they like. David’s wife and kids designed their cans! From there, the kids can have fun by throwing bean bags at the cans and trying to land as many as they can. If you don’t have any bean bags you can simply use dried beans and place those in small bags.

What you need:

  1. Bean bags or make your own using dried beans and small bags
  2. Large juice cans

Game #3 – Outdoor Chalkboard

Using an outdoor cement board, David made an outdoor chalkboard for his kids! These are great because you can hang them on the fence or even make a stand so the kids can use it outside since the material is suitable for the outdoors! And, if you’re more ambitious, you can build them a climbing frame!

What you need:

  1. Cement board for exterior use
  2. Chalkboard paints (comes in a variety of colours)
