4 Ways to Make Fall Basics Look Chic

Create a whole new fall wardrobe with the things you already own!

We all have our fall staple pieces, but it can be difficult to style them in a way that is exciting, and dare I say, chic. I am going to show you 4 fall looks where many of the pieces I’m showing can be mixed and matched to make a fun fall capsule wardrobe.

Look 1: Classic white tee

  • We all have a white tee in our closet, typically pair it with jeans (which is totally okay!)
  • To make it chic, we’re ditching the denim and going for wide-leg pants (helps to balance out large hips and thighs for the curvy ladies)
  • Choose a fun colour
  • Still like to keep it casual with sneakers

Look 2: Blazer

  • Many of us own black blazers – they go with everything
  • To make it chic, wear it with a slip dress (a great way to transition dresses to the fall)
  • I went for leopard print – animal print is trendy right now (believe it or not, the leopard can be worn as a neutral because it works with so many colours)
  • Belted the blazer to give me shape

Look 3: Sweater Vest

  • Sweater vests and button-ups are a classic, preppy look
  • To make it look chic, I chose a sweater vest that’s slightly cropped to emphasize the smallest part of my waist (navy goes with everything, slightly more colourful than black)
  • Oversized blouse in silk feels more elegant than cotton and is less stiff
  • Slimmer-fit cargo pants instead of jeans or trousers – more pockets = more fun!
  • Monochromatic outfits look expensive and like you put the effort in, even if you didn’t
  • Chelsea boots for comfort

Look 4: Turtleneck

  • Turtlenecks look good on their own but work really well layered under dresses for fall
  • Ribbed turtleneck for texture
  • Under a blazer-like dress
  • Switch the fabric belt that comes with a dress or jacket for a stylish leather/faux-leather belt
  • Tall boots to keep your legs warm
