5 Facial Sunscreens You Need To Try This Summer

The best facial sunscreens that will keep you protected and glowing this summer!

Today is national sunscreen day! Sunscreen is essential for preventing skin cancer and can help prevent wrinkles. But it also can be a pain to wear all day everyday. It can can be greasy, sticky, and cause acne and irritation to your skin. White casts can be tough for dark skin tones and difficult to blend under makeup. It’s worth it to find a product that will provide sun protection, works for your skin type, and is easy to reapply throughout the day. Lets go over the best facial sunscreens to try this summer.

Some things you should know before buying a sunscreen:
There are two types of sunscreens filters: chemical and mineral.

Chemical sunscreen

Organic compounds such as oxybenzone, avobenzone, homosalate, octinoxate, octocrylene, and octisalate are used in chemical sunscreens to provide UV protection. These absorb the sun’s rays, convert them to heat, and then release the heat through the skin. This takes around 15 minutes, so if you’re wearing chemical sunscreen filters, you should allow at least that amount of time before going outside. One drawback with chemical sunscreens is that you have to reapply more often than mineral sunscreens because they break down upon exposure to UV light. They also tend to be more irritating to the skin because allergies to the ingredients are fairly common.

Mineral sunscreen

Mineral sunscreens function as a physical barrier between you and UV radiation, dispersing the light as it passes through your skin. Titanium and zinc oxide are the two main components that function as physical blockers. These UV filters block a wide variety of wavelengths and are photostable, so you won’t have to reapply as often. Dermatologists frequently recommend zinc oxide to patients with melasma or dark spots since it is a key component in preventing hyperpigmentation. However, physical sunscreens aren’t as smooth or lightweight as chemical sunscreens. They also create a white cast on the skin, making it difficult for people with darker skin tones.
