Soft pretzels

An easy, no sour dough starter needed soft pretzel.

Ingredients

cups warm water
1
package instant yeast
1
tsp kosher salt
1
Tbsp maple syrup
1
Tbsp butter, melted
4
cups flour, AP
10
cups boiling water
1/2
cup baking soda
1
egg, for wash
2
Tbsp goarse sea salt, garnish
Favourite cheese sauce

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl dissolve yeast and maple syrup, let rest for 6 minutes.
  2. Stir in butter, salt and flour to make a dough.
  3. Place dough on counter and knead for 5 minutes. Place in a bowl with olive oil and let rise in a warm area for 10 minutes.
  4. Cut dough into 4 pieces and roll into long ropes.
  5. Twist into pretzel shape and blanch in boiling baking soda water for 12 seconds. Yes 12.
  6. Remove, place on baking sheet and brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sea salt.
  7. Bake at 400F for 15-20 minutes or until golden.
  8. Remove and serve with your favourite cheese sauce.
