Refacing Cabinets

So many new looks for your cabinets, with a simple coat of paint and a bit of elbow grease.

Painting Cabinets

1. Using a fine grit sandpaper, sand down the entire surface of the cabinet  and wipe away any dust and debris.
2. Prime with Fresh Start Primer and allow to dry.
3. Using a high density foam roller for the flat surfaces and a good quality angle sash polyester brush for the corners, paint with two coats of Aura Satin in your choice of colour (we used Aura Satin tinted to 2142-40 dry sage).

Staining Cabinets

1. Using a fine grit sandpaper or sanding block, sand down the cabinet.  (Note: Try and sand the cabinet evenly so that the stain does not blotch and be sure to sand in the same direction as the wood grain).
2. With a water dampened cloth, wipe away any dust (the damp cloth will also help to open up the wood grain and prepare for the stain).
3. Brush on the Interior Penetrating Stain (we used Walnut Grove 241-66) using a quality stain brush.  You can re-apply another coat of stain for a dark finish or wipe the stain away with a lint free cloth for a light finish.
4. Using a high density foam roller, apply two coats of  Low Luster Stays Clear polyurethane to seal and protect the cabinets.

Painting Cabinets with Glaze

1. Lightly sand the wood cabinets to remove any sheen.
2. Mix the Benjamin Moore Alkyd Glaze 50/50 with the Interior Alkyd Satin (tinted to the colour of your choice, we used HC-100 Gloucester sage).
3. Brush the mixture on lightly and drag it with the grain.  The key to this technique is to still be able to see the wood grain underneath.  Use a lint free rag to take any excess paint off.
4. Allow to dry.
