Hot, humid weather can do a number on your makeup, but there are techniques and products that can help keep everything in place.

Hot, humid weather can do a number on your makeup, but there are techniques and products that can help keep everything in place. Here are makeup artist Tracy Peart’s tips for a fresh, summer look that will take you through the muggiest of summer days.

1. Start with a primer. The makeup will adhere to the skin and stay on all day. It’s best to use a downward motion for primer, so it sits on top of your skin. (Use an upward motion for face wash, lotion and other products you want absorbed.)

2. To cover discoloration with blue or purple undertones, go with concealer with a yellow tint. It will cancel out the blue-purple and get rid of darkness. For brown or darker skin, go with a concealer that matches your skin tone. You don’t need to colour correct.

3. Stippling creates a wall of makeup and is more effective than a sweeping motion, which wipes off the makeup and wastes product.

4. Using concealer on your eyelids will work as a primer. Eye shadow and any other makeup you’re using will stick to it.

5. Don’t put makeup all over your face, as you do in winter. Just focus on areas that need foundation, usually around the nose and chin. If you cover your face, it will feel heavy by the end of the day and wastes product.

6. When pencilling in your eyebrows, use light, feathery strokes. Solid lines will look too harsh.

7. Using a lip primer will help keep your lipstick in place. A little goes a long way.

8. Concentrate blush on the apples of your cheeks, where the sun would naturally hit the face. Don’t apply blush in the hollows.
