We’ve been indoors this past year more than we anticipated. And with virtual school keeping the kids inside, I found some fun apps that the whole family will love…. and they’re FREE!


Geocaching is back in! What’s it all about?

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.  Sign the logbook and return the geocache to its original location. Endless fun!

Discover new trails in your neighbourhood with ALLTRAILS app.  Access 200,000+ trail maps.  AllTrails has the largest collection of detailed, hand-curated trail maps.

Learn more about the nature around you with iNaturalist – snap a photo of an organism you want to identify and using AI on the app, you can learn more about the species, facts, etc.

Sky view 

This one is a favourite.  You can learn more about the stars with SkyView – Point your camera at the sky and learn more about constellations, satellites, and more.

SkyView app is a free augmented reality (AR) app for both iOS and Android devices that uses your smartphone’s camera to uncover different stars, constellations, planets, star clusters and other celestial bodies in the night sky.
